Arroyo meets Obama

US President Barack Obama and President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo of the Philippines finally meet .The two leaders had 45-minutes close door meeting in the Oval office at the White House, Washington, DC.After the meeting , 10 minutes press conference was held .Let me share you some of the details in the press conference taken from abs-cbnnews.com

Oval Office

3:47 P.M. EDT

President Barack Obama: Well, let me express my thanks and appreciation for the visit from President Arroyo. As we discussed during our meeting here and our delegations, the relationship between the United States and the Philippines dates back many years. It is a friendship that is forged not only in treaties and trade relationships and military relationships, but it is also strengthened by very personal ties that exist between our two countries. We are proud to have 4 million persons of Filipino ancestry contributing to our country each and every day, in all walks of life. The fact that we have Filipino veterans who have fought side by side with American soldiers on behalf of freedom -- all those things have strengthened the relationship between our two countries.

I am very pleased that President Arroyo has made such good progress on dealing with counterterrorism issues. She has initiated a peace process in Mindanao that we think is -- has the potential to bring peace and stability to a part of the Philippines that has been wracked by unrest for too long. We are very grateful of the strong voice that the Philippines has provided in dealing with issues in Asia ranging from the human rights violations that have for too long existed in Burma to the problems that we're seeing with respect to nuclear proliferation in North Korea.

I am looking forward to my travels to Southeast Asia, and the Philippines will be the coordinating country in the U.S. relationship with ASEAN, the primary organization -- strategic organization for Southeast Asian countries. And in addition, the Philippines will be chairing the Non-Proliferation Treaty conference that will be taking next -- place next year.

And so we're going to have a busy agenda together working to reduce the threat of nuclear weapons, improving the multilateral partnerships in Asia that can create greater security and greater prosperity for all countries. And in addition, we continue to be grateful for the outstanding contributions that the Philippines has made with respect to U.N. peacekeeping around the world.

So although the Philippines is not the largest of countries, it, in using a phrase from boxing, punches above its weight in the international arena, and we are very grateful that President Arroyo has visited us here today, and we are looking forward to using this meeting as a way of launching even greater cooperation between our two countries in the years to come.

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo: Thank you, Mr. President, and thank you for inviting me to have this very important conversation here in the White House.

The U.S. is very essential to the economic, diplomatic, and national security of our country. We are very thankful for the U.S. as an important ally in helping to professionalize our military and making it more effective.

Just as important, we are thankful to the U.S. for being such a good ally in our -- working on soft power by helping us build bridges, roads, schools, not only in Mindanao but across the nation. And this assistance of the U.S. has gone a long way in helping us to achieve what we have been able to achieve in the peace process in Mindanao in southern Philippines, and also in our fight against terrorism.

I was very happy to let President Obama know that the Muslim secessionists have agreed, together with a Philippine government panel, to work towards a resumption of formal peace talks, and we're very thankful for the international community, including the U.S., for their assistance in bringing us to this stage.

Internationally, we stand foursquare behind the United States on the position that it has taken with regard to Burma and with regard to North Korea's nuclear adventurism.

We also applaud President Obama for his leadership on climate change, which is so important to the Philippines because we are an archipelagic country and severe climate change is going to be disastrous for our country. We are already feeling the weather pattern changes in the rising seas.

We are also -- finally, may I say that I bring the thanks also of our Filipino veterans for the inclusion of the veterans' benefits in the fiscal stimulus package, something that we have all waited for as a country for the last 60 years.

So I'm very grateful for this opportunity. We thank the Obama administration for the new engagement in our part of the world, and we look forward to a stronger relationship between the U.S. and ASEAN and, bilaterally, a stronger relationship with our two countries.

Thank you, Mr. President.

President Barack Obama: Thank you so much.

Okay, we're going to take two questions, one from a Filipino reporter.

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo: Yes.

President Barack Obama: Yes. This gentleman right here. Is this a good -- (laughter.)

Go ahead.

Question : Thank you very much, Mr. President, and President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. I am from the Philippine media, sir. It's noted that you're the first Asian head of state to be afforded by President Obama this -- such an invitation. As much as this is your first time to see President Obama in person and you have talked to him, could you kindly share to us, Madam President, your impressions of the American President? (Laughter.)

President Barack Obama: I'm sure she thinks I'm much younger looking than she expected. (Laughter.)

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo: Well, as a person, President Obama is very cordial, warm, and welcoming. And I'm really very impressed about -- of his deep understanding and knowledge of the Philippines and the Filipino people -- the understanding of the close relationship within the Filipino people and the American people.

And we -- I think we connected very well also on our position with regard to Burma and Aung San Suu Kyi, with regard to North Korea and nuclear proliferation, with regard to human rights and terrorism. And we welcome President Obama's reaching out to the Muslim world, and also we are very pleased about his -- the importance that he accords to engagement with our part of the world.

Question: Is it considered to be ungrateful if I will not get your reaction? It will be greatly appreciated if you can also give your impression of our President.

President Barack Obama: Well, obviously, President Arroyo has done outstanding work on a whole range of issues. She mentioned the areas where the United States and the Philippines are of one accord, but as evidenced here today, she's somebody who knows the issues. She has experience leading the Philippines through some very difficult times. She has expressed a great friendship towards the United States, and aside from her great personal charm -- (laughter) -- we are very appreciative of the concrete ways in which her administration has pursued strengthening ties with the United States. So I'm very grateful for that.

Okay, Jeff Mason.

Question: Yes, sir. A double-barreled question for you. First of all, what do you expect to be the main message of the GDP figures that come out tomorrow? And second of all, what do you think will be the main message of your meeting tonight in the Rose Garden?

President Barack Obama: On GDP, I don't have a crystal ball and I haven't received the figures yet, but I think if you look at the consensus of economists right now, it confirms that we have seen a significant slowing down of the contraction over the last several months. There are a lot of indicators out there that tell us that job losses, although still way too high, are not at the pace that we were seeing in January or February. Housing prices went up for the first time in three years. The credit system, the banking system, the financial markets generally have settled down. You're not seeing the huge volatility or panic that you were seeing.

And so all of that is a sign that we have stepped away from the precipice. As Ben Bernanke and others across the ideological spectrum have indicated, we were in a position where we could have gone into a Great Depression. I think those fears have abated.

But I suspect that the GDP numbers will still show that the economy contracted in the second quarter, that job loss is still a huge problem. And you don't have to read GDP numbers to see that; all you got to do is talk to the American people who are still losing jobs, losing homes, and worried about their ability to keep their health care and finance their child's college educations. So we're not going to rest until we have seen not just a technical improvement in GDP but until the American people's job prospects, their incomes have rebounded -- and that's going to take some time.

With respect to tonight, you know, I am, I have to say, fascinated with the fascination about this evening. As you know, this idea was prompted when I was talking to Sergeant Crowley, and he said, well, maybe I'll have a beer in the White House someday, and I said, well, you know, I'm sure that can be arranged.

I notice this had been called the "beer summit." It's a clever term, but this is not a summit, guys. This is three folks having a drink at the end of the day and hopefully giving people an opportunity to listen to each other. And that's really all it is.

This is not a -- this is not a university seminar. It is not a summit. It's an attempt to have some personal interaction when an issue has become so hyped and so symbolic that you lose sight of just the fact that these are people involved, including myself, all of whom are imperfect. And hopefully instead of ginning up anger and hyperbole, everybody can just spend a little bit of time with some self-reflection and recognizing that other people have different points of view. And that's all it is.

And so I will be surprised if you guys all make this the lead as opposed to a very important meeting that we just had with one of our most important partners in the world, but the press has surprised me before. (Laughter.)

Thank you very much.

The Philippine President Ninth (9) State of the Nation Address - July 27,2009

It was the most awaited day for the Filipinos. The most powerful official of the Philippines delivered her State of the Nation Address (SONA). With this, her constituents will know how she struggled for the last 12 months after the 8th SONA. Critics and detractors are left and right, ready to make their comments. Demonstrators rally in the streets. They have been there five days ago. The long walk from the Tagalog region gathered a lot of followers resulting a huge crowd. That did not stop the courageous Lady President. The show must go on, rain or shine.

The spacious Session Hall of the Batasang Pambansa Bldg. was filled with people. The legislators with their better-halves came in their attractive attires, no less than Barong-Tagalog for the men and fabulous gowns for the ladies. Senator Loren Legarda looked great on her bareback gown. Same is thru with Senator Pia Cayetano on her semi-bare back formal dress. Everyone seemed to be well-prepared for the occasion.

The Lady President arrived with her entourage. She was simple and pretty with her lavender Filipiniana gown. She had only a pair of earrings to enhance that gown but she appeared to be elegant and respectable. She walked in the Session Hall as regal as she is, so confident. Her presence was enough for the audience to turn thier eyes on towards her.

Despite the cruel demonstrators outside and amidst the intriguing crowd at the Session Hall, her Excellency Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo steeped-on the rustrom to deliver her 9th SONA.

It was a speech of substance. She bragged about our improving economy. The peso survived over the dollar. More infrastructures were built and still on going. More teachers were hired, more classrooms were built, more relevant school facilities were provided. In Agriculture, we were assured of enough supply of rice after a series of importation. In fact, Philippines ranked highest in rice import. Peace and order situation was announced stable. Everything was under control. About a million jobs were occupied by our people OFW's who were aggravated were sent home to the country.

Despite her achievements, the President was disappointed about her detractors. As if, they were not pleased about her accomplishments. In one of her lives, she said "I did not become President to become popular." That was quiet an intriguing line. Others call it a gesture of arrogance.

And to sum-it-up, the SONA was an excellent speech, well prepared, well delivered. The President gained a lot of applauses and hundred of claps.

The First Gentlemen Mike Arroyo, was very proud of the President. He stressed out that his wife will serve the nation until the end of her term.

After the SONA, President Arroyo simply step down from the stage and made her way to the exit. One thing she assured her detractors , she will never step dwon from being President until the last day of her term.

Will the medical license of Hayden Kho will be removed permanently?

The Philippines Medical Association (PMA) are now making their move regarding the Hayden Kho and Katrina Halili video scandal issue. The PMA decided to punish Dr. Hayden Kho. Dr. Kho is held liable for recording the sex videos without the consent of his partner. (It refers to the videos Kho recorded together with Katrina Halili , Maricar Reyes, Brazilian Model and more) . Aside from that, he is also engaging in pre-marital sex which is an act of immorality and dishonorable by the PMA.

On thurdays night, the six-man committee of PMA will vote secretly about their decision regading this issue. But this is not final yet because it has to be confimed by the PMA Board of Directors. The committee are still about to decide if Hayden Kho will be suspended or removed from the PMA roster (the official list of professional doctors). The PMA Board of Directors is expected to discuss the issue on August 9.

Let's Pray for the Former President Cory Aquino

There were text messages that the former President Aquino had passed away. But the Aquino family clarified the issue that it was not true. Her grandson, Justin 'Jiggy' Aquino Cruz, said the rumors of Former President Cory Aquino's death were "false, I can assure you that." Dr. Eric Nubla, spokesman for Makati Medical Center said that "The Aquino family appreciates expressions of support from the public, but would like to request that only announcements from the 5 children and grandsons be given credence by the public and the press."

In my opinion, as the Filipino citizen, instead of spreading any unnecessary information why don't we pray to the former president. We all know that she is in pain right now so all we must do is to pray. Lets pray that the pain she in right now will lessen.

Pope Benedict XVI is also praying for Cory Aquino. The Apostolic Nunciature in the Philippines issued a communiqué that the Pope also expressed his spiritual closeness to Aquino. The Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone had updated the Pope regrading on Aquino's health condition.

“The Holy Father has asked that you be informed that he is remembering you in his prayers,” Papal Nuncio to the Philippines Archbishop Edward Joseph Adams told Aquino.

"Man In The Mirror" by Michael Jackson

I'm Gonna Make A Change,
For Once In My Life
It's Gonna Feel Real Good,
Gonna Make A Difference
Gonna Make It Right . . .

As I, Turn Up The Collar On My
Favourite Winter Coat
This Wind Is Blowin' My Mind
I See The Kids In The Street,
With Not Enough To Eat
Who Am I, To Be Blind?
Pretending Not To See
Their Needs
A Summer's Disregard,
A Broken Bottle Top
And A One Man's Soul
They Follow Each Other On
The Wind Ya' Know
'Cause They Got Nowhere
To Go
That's Why I Want You To
Know

I'm Starting With The Man In
The Mirror
I'm Asking Him To Change
His Ways
And No Message Could Have
Been Any Clearer
If You Wanna Make The World
A Better Place

Take A Look At Yourself, And
Then Make A Change
(Take A Look At Yourself, And
Then Make A Change)
(Na Na Na, Na Na Na, Na Na,

I've Been A Victim Of A Selfish
Kind Of Love
It's Time That I Realize
That There Are Some With No
Home, Not A Nickel To Loan
Could It Be Really Me,
Pretending That They're Not
Alone?

A Willow Deeply Scarred,
Somebody's Broken Heart
And A Washed-Out Dream
(Washed-Out Dream)
They Follow The Pattern Of
The Wind, Ya' See
Cause They Got No Place
To Be
That's Why I'm Starting With

Ms Kris Aquino Meets Crissy of NNNN at the Buzz

I am a fan of Bhoy and Crissy in NNNN "Ntertainment News Na Naman". I always watch this newest comedy gag show "Banana Split Season 2" every Saturday night at ABS-CBN . Jason Gainza would play the role of Tito Bhoy and Angelica Panganiban as Crissy. They really play their role well. I really like their tandem. I always laugh at their jokes. Jason would laugh like Tito Bhoy Abunda .He covered his head with prosthetics to look closer like Tito Boy. Angelica on the other hand has her high pitch voice like Kris Aquino. She also wears beautiful gown like the fashion icon Kris Aquino.

I was surprised last Sunday on the Buzz when Crissy finally meet Ms. Kris Aquino. In fairness, they have similarities and they are both beautiful. Ms. Kris Aquino told Crissy to pray that SNN will retain it high ratings so that NNNN will keep on giving smile to its viewers.

Lolit Solis : Is she the mastermind behind the Hayden Kho and Katrina Halili Video Scandal Issue?

It was reported in the news that Lolit Solit "scripted" all the issues behind the Hayden Kho and Katrina Halili video scandal. The lawyer of Ms. Katrina Halili made public an audio recording that contained conversions of Lolit Solis with Hayden Kho, Dra. Vicky Belo, Hayden Kho's mother Irene, Kho’s lawyers Lorna Kapunan, and public relations practitioner Reli German. The meeting was held on May 21,2009 at Hayden Kho's residence. The conversation was a plan to destroy Katrina's reputation. They are trying to discuss the best move on what to do next regarding video scandal issue.

Ms Katrina's layer Atty. Palad refer this controversial audio recording as "Project Angels and Demons". Here Lolit Solis told Hayden Kho on how to please the people in order to have pity on him and forgive all his wrongdoings. She said that Hayden must say sorry to the public. She taught him the on what to do like he must change his facial expressions so that he will look really sorry. Lolit also instructed Irene Kho on what to say in the public. It was also mentioned this in conversation of the names of the person that they reveal to the public who started the distribution of the video scandal.

Atty. Palad also said that it was mentioned in the meeting that they are trying to attempt to extort P4 million from Kho. This alleged extortion was done by a man who came from a well'known family, he also said. Atty Palad was so confident that the "CD will tell it all." (hopefully)The lawyer added that the audio clip would also expose the alleged inconsistencies in the affidavits of the respondents in the case Katrina Halili filed before the Department of Justice (DOJ).

On the other hand, Lolit Solis share her side to the news that there is nothing illegal about the audio clip. These meeting has nothing to do with the video scandals, she added.

Freddie Aguilar called Gary V, Arnel Pineda and Charice Pempengo Copy Cats?

I watch yesterday the Buzz, I was shocked when I heard that Freddie Aguilar called Mr. Pure Energy Gary V., Journey Lead Vocalist Arnel Pineda and International Singing Sensational Charice Pempengo monkeys???

It was reported in TV Patrol last week that Freddie Aguilar, one of the famous musician-songwriter here in the Philippines, says that artists should be proud as Filipino wherever we may go. He also said that Arnel Pineda and Charice Pempengo were like monkeys because they would "copycats" the music of international artists. He even said that Gary V won't become famous if he will just "copycat" Michael Jackson. (Personally,I don't agree with this. Gary V., Arnel Pineda at Charice Pempengo had their own identity, talent and uniqueness.)

Mr. Arnel Pineda respects Mr. Freddie Aguilar's statement. He said he believes that they still make Filipinos proud although they only sing out American songs.
He said he could not change Aguilar’s mindset but he hopes he would minimize from saying not good things about his fellow Filipino artists.

Mr. Pure Energy Gary V. also disagree with Mr. Freddie Aguilar's statements.“In that case, then I'm one because in my concerts I don't always do Gary Valenciano. I think we stand up there (on stage) to also pay respect to the artists that inspired [us]," he said.

In the Buzz last Sunday,Mr Aguilar clarified that he didn't say that he called them monkey. Filipinos would only mimic the styles and songs of other international artists so one of international singer would nicknamed us as "monkey".

Dra. Vicky Belo finally speaks up on Hayden Kho and Katrina Halili Scandal Issue

I was surprise when I watch the The Buzz (the top rating showbiz talk show here in the Philippines) last Sunday because finally Dr. Vicky Belo reveal her side regarding the Hayden Kho and Katrina Halili video scandal issue. She was interview exclusively by Boy Abunda.I'm glad that they finally talk again after the misunderstanding five months ago.

As I recall, Mr. Abunda was offended by statement made by Belo in one of her TV guestings .She said that "All I’d like to say is, if you want to look like Boy Abunda , go to Calayan, But if you want to look like Dingdong Dantes and Piolo Pascual, come to Belo."

Mr. Boy Abunda receive a lot of text messages regarding this interview but according to him this interview was his assignment and it was his job to do it.He clarified that he remains to be the of Calayan Surgicenter endorser.

In the first part of the exclusive interview,Dr. Belo reveals that Princess Velasco, which is the girlfriend of Bistek del Rosario, plan to go to her house to confess that she had illicit affair with Hayden Kho last December 2009. Dr. Belo (together with Haden Kho), that moment was watching Manny Pacquiao-Oscar de la Hoya fight. So, Princess called her and informed that she want to resign in Belo clinic. The moment she arrive to Manila, she immediately called Princess and asked here to come to her house.

Belo felt betrayed by Princess and Hayden. She was really angry especially to Hayden.

Mr. Boy Abunda then asked her about the video tape. She said that she asked help to Erik Chua because she couldn't open the hard drive which was password protected. Erik told her that he knew somebody who can open anything. So,at around 5:25 in the afternoon, Erik arrive. Then, other guy arrive at 6:05. Dr. Belo had a dinner date that night for two hours at around 5:25 to 7:25. Dr. Belo is about to finish her dinner when Erik suddenly appear and gave her a DVD. She was shocked when she watched the video the next day. She said she immediately destroy the DVD and the hard drive.

Mr Boy Abunda also asked Dr. Belo about Katrina and her company want her license revoked. Dr. Belo was shocked when she heard about that. She also reveal that Katrina Halili confessed that she had relationship with Hayden Kho (which she denied first).

Dr. Belo say sorry to her mom and two children for being affected by this issue. She finally said that "We should all pray for that truth to come out.I don't hate you all.Let all pray together for the truth to come out."

Never skip breakfast, for a healthy heart

Breakfast can help prevent strokes, heart attack and sudden death. It is the most important meal of the day. Recent study confirms that one of the worst practices you can develop may be avoiding breakfast. The frequency of heart attack, sudden death, and stroke peaks between 6:00 a.m. and noon, with the highest incidence being between 8:00 a.m. and 10 a.m.

Platelet, tiny elements in the blood that keep us from bleeding to Death if we get a cut, can clump together inside our arteries due to cholesterol or laque buildup in the artery lining. It is in the morning hours that platelets become the most activated and tend to form these internal blood clots at the greatest frequency.

However, eating even a very light breakfast prevents the morning platelet activation that is associated with heart attacks and strokes. Studies performed at Memorial University in St. Johns, Newfoundland found that eating a light, very low-fat breakfast was critical in modifying the morning platelet activation. Subjects in the study consumed either low-fat or fat-free yogurt, orange juice, fruit, and a source of protein coming from yogurt or fat-free milk. So if you skip breakfast, it’s important that you change this practice immediately in light of this research. Develop a simple plan to eat cereal, such as oatmeal or Bran Flakes, along with six ounces of grape juice or orange juice, and perhaps a piece of fruit. This simple plan will keep your platelets from sticking together, keep blood clots from forming, and perhaps head off a potential Heart Attack or Stroke.
