Sea Tragedy Kill 9

The SuperFerry 9, one of the passenger vessels of the Aboitiz Transport System Corporation sank at exactly 8:20 a.m. at Banga Point near Zamboanga del Norte last September 6,2009. On board are 847 passengers including 117 crews and 4 sea marshalls. The incident happened at around 2:00 a.m. when a big noise was heard at the cargo compartment of the vessel as if the cargoes are falling apart.

Passengers with mobile phones were able to contact their kins. They have their life jackets on already. That time the ship had slided towards the right portion at 30 degrees. The ship captain has commanded the abandonment of the ship at 4:40 a.m. The Philippine Navy, Philippine Air Force and the Philippines Coast Guard were among the first rescuers to come. Other private vessels also took part in the rescue. The search and rescue operations are still going on with only two passengers left missing. Nine were dead. Three were initially identified as James Calero, 2; Carina Ampere, 23; Fernando Estrada, 45; 3 unidentified males and 3 unidentified females.Leaving much trauma to the rescued ones who expected much for fun, pleasure and excitement to such a sea voyage. The shippine company will provide P50,000 cash assistance for the survivors and P200,000 for each dead passenger.
