The start of the year 2009 is just like any other year. People start it with a big bang hoping, striving more for a more fruitful year. Although our economy is sinking due to the Global financial crisis, the Filipino people stood up with the ultimate dream of rising and changing for the better. Many inspiring things happen during the first 6 months not until our country was striked by a heavy rainfall causing flood in many districts in Manila and neighboring provinces. It was an overnight disaster, so swift the flood water rise all throughout the land quickly. Unexpectedly, people do not know where to go. Put the blame to Typhoon Ondoy in which the forces came in form of a heavy rainfull. Its a good thing there are no much wind to reinforce its harm. But still almost a thousand lives were lost, thousands left homeless and millions in Pesos properties damaged. All human forces both public and private sectors worked hand in hand to ease the pain of our brothers and sisters. Relief goods were distributed, financial aid poured in, each one showed concern for one another. Barely few days after the disastrous Ondoy, another striker visited our country, the Typhoon Peping. Like Ondoy, it caused the loss of hundred of lives. This time, it is the landslide which attacked people by surprise. People were buried alive due to the lack of precautionary measures. How could they, when leaving the place is next to impossible. Again, it was just like a big slap to our administration.
Topping the tragic events was the unforgettable Maguindanao Massacre. The 57 individuals who donated their lives for the light of freedom and the absolute revival of democracy in Maguindanao still denied of justice. Suspects were captured but assurance of justice to be served is not clear. More negotiations and clarifications are done to secure welfare of each party. In fact, despite of multiple murder cases being filed, the possibility of a bail is being worked-out. We just don't know whose welfare are our judiciaries after for?
And now that Christmas is over, we are anticipating for a more productive year ahead of us. There are more accidents occurring left and right, the land transportation accidents are no longer a taboo, the air crashes, they usually happen and the sea disasters, two ships bumping each other in the deep wide sea, they are but still considered isolated cases.
Our beautiful Mayon Volcano keeps on murmuring a few weeks back. It has thrown some of its lava and ashes, yet something is still stored inside the perfect cone that is waiting for the right time in order to explode.
All these and more right in front of our naked eyes, tickling our minds amidst the festivities of the holiday season. Who could just ignore and forget these tremendous events?
