Philippine Holidays for November 2009 Updated
Here's the updated press release of The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) regarding the holidays this November 2009.
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) today said that the Malacañang Palace has declared November 27 and 28, 2009 (Eid'l Adha) as regional holidays in the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) by virtue of Proclamation No. 1808-A.
Labor and Employment Secretary Marianito D. Roque thus clarified that November 27 and 28, 2009 are not to be observed as holidays throughout the country.
Roque said that the new issuance effectively amended the earlier Proclamation No. 1808, issued earlier on April 21, 2009, which had declared November 28 and 29 this year as national holidays.
He advised the country's employers that as a result of Proclamation No. 1808-A, the pay rules for regular holidays will not apply during the said dates except in ARMM.
The Labor and Employment Chief said that consequently, there will only be three holidays nationwide this November by virtue of the earlier Presidential Proclamation No. 1699 issued on December 24, 2008.
He said these are the All Saints Day to be observed as special non-working day on November 1, the additional special non-working day on November 2 declared by the President for the purpose strengthening family relationship among the Filipinos on All Saints Day, and the regular holiday in celebration of Bonifacio Day on November 30, 2009.
Roque reiterated to employers in the country's private sector the pay rules that must be observed during the said nationwide holidays, as follows:
1) For the special non-working days on November 1 (All Saints Day) and 2, 2009:
a) If worked, an employee is entitled to 130% of his [or her] daily rate for the first 8 hours, and to an additional 30% of his or her hourly rate on the said day for work performed in excess of 8 hours;
b) If unworked, he or she is not entitled to any payment, unless there is a favorable company policy, practice or collective bargaining agreement (CBA) granting payment for special days even if not worked;
c) If worked and falling on the employee's rest day, the employee is entitled for the first 8 hours to 150% of his or her regular daily rate, and for work performed in excess of 8 hours, plus 30% of his or her hourly rate on the said day.
2) For the regular holiday on November 30, 2009 (Bonifacio Day):
a) If the holiday falls on an employee's regular workday:
- If worked, [the employee] is entitled to 200% of his [or her] basic wage for the first eight (8) hours and, for work in excess of the 8 hours, to an additional 30% of his or her hourly rate on the said day;
- If unworked, the employee is entitled to 100% of his or her regular daily rate, provided he or she was present or was on leave with pay on the workday immediately preceding the holiday.
b) If the day is the employee's rest day:
- If worked, the employee is entitled, for the first 8 hours, to 200% of his or her daily rate plus 30% and, for work in excess of 8 hours, plus 30% of his or her hourly rate on the said day;
- If unworked, the employee is entitled to 100% of his or her regular daily rate, provided he or she was present or was on leave with pay on the workday immediately preceding the holiday.
c) Where the day immediately preceding the holiday is a non-work day in the establishment or the scheduled rest day of the employee, he or she shall not be deemed on leave of absence on that day, in which case he or she shall be entitled to the holiday pay.
Any clarifications regarding the pay rules may be made with the DOLE's Bureau of Working Conditions (BWC) at tel. no. 527-3000 local 301.

A Link To Ella's Blog "Aanhin Pa ang Damu Kung Patay Na Ang Kabayo" (DSWD Special Report)
I was surprise when I saw a report from Bandila, a evening news program in ABS-CBN, about a blog entry written by Ella. Ella is volunteer in DSWD (Department of Social Welfare and Development) who helps in repacking relief goods for the victims of Typhoon Ondoy and Typhoon Pepeng. She discovered that some of the relief goods where rotting in DSDW warehouse. Some of the goods donated from the foreign countries were not even touched yet. For more information about this issue check out this pictures and read Ella's blog entry.
This is the warehouse of DSWD full of donated relief goods. Most of the it were not yet distributed to the people. The typhoon was almost one month ago.
More relief goods in DSWD warehouse..
Imported toys ..still here inside the DSWD warehouse..
Donated goods from foreign countries. When will the typhoon victims will receive it. Are they intended for "special victims"?
Donated goods from Japan. Still wondering what's inside. Still untouched.
Coleman camp beds(picture above) .According to Ella ,this is not included in the relief goods intended for typhoon victims but instead they only give "banig." (picture below)
This is the only goods distributed to the typhoon victims. Most are locally made products.

Watch The Most Awaited Wedding of the Year: Mar Roxas and Korina Sanchez
Every Filipino around the world are excited to witness the most controversial wedding of the year. This is the day where Senator Manuel "Mar" Roxas II and Ms. Korina Sanchez will make a vow to God to love each other forever and ever. The ceremony will be held at the Sto. Domingo Church in Quezon City on October 27,2009 (Tuesday).
Last Tuesday, the list of "Ninongs" and "Ninangs"or godparents were revealed. The high-profile "Ninongs" are Chief Justice Reynato Puno, ABS-CBN Chairman Eugenio "Gabby" Lopez III, former Senate President Jovito Salonga, and Sen. Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III, Roxas running mate for 2010 elections. "Ninangs" for the wedding include actress Rosa Rosal; broadcast journalist Cheche Lazaro; Helen Costales (best friend of Korina Sanchez's mother); as well as Baby Fores and Ruby Roxas (aunt of Mar Roxas).
Due to the recent typhoon, Mar and Korina choose to cancel their wedding reception which is supposedly to be held in Araneta Coliseum.
“Instead of spending for the reception at Araneta Coliseum as planned, Mar and I agreed to donate the amount set aside for it to various charity organizations taking care of evacuees and victims of typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng,” Sanchez said in a press statement.These charity groups are Caritas Manila, the Philippine National Red Cross, Sagip Kapamilya of ABS-CBN and Kapuso Foundation of GMA-7, among others.
After the wedding ceremony at Sto. Domingo Church , Korina said that a private and simple wedding reception will take place at her soon-to-be-husband’s home.
Politician and show business personalities as well as representatives from various groups that are close to the Mar and Korina have been invited to attend the wedding.

“On the eve of her birthday, President Arroyo has signified her intention to declare November 27 and 28, 2009 as national holidays in celebration of the Eid’l Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice, the culmination of the Islamic world’s Harirya Hajj or the pilgrimage to Makkah (Mecca), Saudi Arabia, of Muslims all over the world,” Secretary Ermita said.
Meanwhile, November 30, a Monday, is a regular non-working holiday to commemorate Bonifacio Day. This will be a long weekend for all of us.

Looking Back At Tayong Dalawa Part 2
To top of it all, would you dare ignore the abilities of Ramon, the blacksheep? His award-winning acting gave the climax of the story. There are short dialogues for him but he expressed his emotions thru his eyes. No wonder, he won several acting wards already.
Everybody was all praises for the versatile performance of Helen Gamboa as "Mamita." She easily shifted from a hard-hearted rich grandma of Dave to a kind-soft-hearted mother of Ingrid who tried to settle all her evil deeds before leaving the world.
The usual "kontra-bida" Cherry Pie Picache as Marlyn is a good mother this time. Despite her indecent past, she picked up her dignity and established a respectable family.
The powerful and rich widow Ingrid as played by Agot Isidro never stopped showing her best from the start to the end of the teleserye. She's suffering from a bi-polar disorder that's why she easily pour-out all her emotions and acting style to give justice to her illness.Her acting was super excellent.
It was a tragedy for Lola Gets played by Gina Parreño. Her death was so meaningful, all the emotions poured out.
There were all those people who contributed much for the success of Tayong Dalawa. Without their cooperation and expertise, no one could create a masterpiece. To the directors, Kudos. You touched our hearts.

Looking Back At Tayong Dalawa Part 1
Who would forget the teleserye Tayong Dalawa, which was aired on Philippine television by ABS CBN for nine months? It was a masterpiece. The rating was so good, it was a phenomenon. Great actors and actresses, best directors gathered together to create a project so well done leaving a deep penetrating mark in our hearts. The telemaniac viewers wouldn't allow a single episode unseen.
The story runs to two strong characters played by Gerald Anderson as JR and Jake Cuenca as Dave,Jr. Both are surnamed Garcia without their knowing it at the start, they are twins.The conflict began when they both fall in love with the same woman, Audrey, portrayed by Kim Chiu. The story rotates to a love triangle and one can just imagine how Audrey passes from one twin to the other like a ball.
A neophyte in the field of acting, JR was able to give justice to his role. He was a goody-goody son, an ideal grandson to Lola Gets (played by Gina Parreño) a sincere martyr lover, one could hardly find loophole into his character.However, he's only a human being, subject to his own weaknesses, he fell in love with Audrey, his twin's girlfriend. His fight for that love was done in good taste, he was able to stir he can do it, be its a drama or action.
Another new asset to our local TV and movie industry is the good-looking Jake Cuenca as Dave, Jr. He was madly in love with the same woman as JR did. He fought and won in the game of love using his wit and money. Who would ignore his blank looks as if groping in the dark. If he's upset his mental senses bug down and goes hysterical. He can do it with the best performances. No doubt about that because he showed a lot previously while doing another big hit teleserye, "Palos".
The presence of sweet, amiable Audrey (Kim Chiu) added spices to the love triangle. She projected the image of a very sad woman torn between two lovers. She made beautiful scenes. Her confrontation with Dave and Ingrid (Agot Isidro), the evil mom of Dave, are all remarkable.

Schedule of Activities of MassKara Festival 2009
MassKara Festival is a week-long festival held every third week of October in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental Philippines. The word MassKara has a double meaning. The first meaning is the fusion of the English word "mass" or many and "kara", the Spanish word for "face." MassKara then becomes a "mass of faces," and these faces have to be smiling to project Bacolod already known in the late 70's as the "City of Smiles".
The MassKara Festival of Bacolod City has repeatedly represented the country in some major festivals in Asia, notably in the Chinggay Festival in Singapore in 1998, the Lunar Festival of Hong Kong in 2001, in the International Tourism Festival of Shanghai in 2004 and in the Midosuji Festival Parade of Osaka, Japan, emerging as champion in the foreign category and first runner-up in the local category - the first award to be given to a foreign participant in the 10-year history of that Japanese festival.

The Angelic Beast
It's wonderful to know that our very own Angel Locsin is one of the nominees for the International Emmy Awards, a prestigious award winning body in the world which focused on television. It was made possible after her splendid performance in Lobo (The Wolf) with actor-turned producer Piolo Pascual.
Our local talents are gaining recognition here and abroad giving us great pride. We're hoping, the Filipinos will always make names in the limelight especially in the field of acting and singing. To name a few, the singing prowess of Lea Salonga, Arnel Pineda, Jed Madela, Charice Pempengco, Sarah Geronimo and Martin Nievera are unbeatable. We have also veteran actor and actresses who inspired our young artists, so that superb acting was made easy for them. Take the case of Coco Martin. His acting ability is beyond compare at his young age. Look at his eyes, they're so expressive. He need not talk a lot. You see, we Filipinos can act. We don't have to be slaves.

Find Another Heaven
A secret cannot be kept forever, Ruffa Gutierrez divulged in the Wowowee's Willie of Fortune segment that the host is courting Lorna Tolentino. The informant was Kris Aquino. "Tsismosa kasi yon eh," said Ruffa. Ow, really? How's that Kris. Willie had been sending double F to Lorna Tolentino lately. I mean Fruits and Flowers, what else? "Nabuking", so Willie blushed. It was obvious, he got mad, only that he retained composure. If that is true, wow, he is getting a good catch. Lorna is still very beautiful and amiable despite her age. She's been keeping a respectable image since then and now. But, will Lorna bite the bait? Let's wait and see if she can find another heaven in the name of Love.

Pacquiao Vs. Cotto "Greatest Fight in the History"
"The Greatest fight in the Boxing History" that was Bob Arum, Top Rank President and well-known international boxing promoter, said regarding Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto match this November 14,2009 in MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Bob Arum warned Pacquiao not to be over confident as he faces his toughest fight on his boxing career when he takes on Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto. "Cotto is a very powerful and dangerous fighter because he fights well as an inverted southpaw. He packs a lethal left hook and fights well moving forward," Arum told the reporters in a press conference in the Philippines.
Arum disagree with Freddie Roach prediction that Pacquaio will win by a knockout in the 9th or 10th round. Arum said that all he knows is the Pacquiao vs Cotto fight will end up in the scorecards of the judges.
With regard to the supposed Pacquiao- Mayweather,Jr. bout in March next year, Bob Arum revealed that there is still a long way to go and more important issues are still to be settled. Manny Pacquiao must first concentrate on his fight with Cotto before aiming his sights on Floyd Mayweather Jr. who has been challenging him to a fight to put an end on the issue of who is really the true pound for pound king.

Che and Chavit, A Sweet Reconciliation?
The case is now dismissed.That is the verdict of Chavit Singson, duly accused by ex-lived-in partner Rachel "Che" Tiongson where in they have five children. Che had withdrawn her accusation for the sake of her children. She believes the future of her kids will be at stake if she continues her plight. Giving in for an out of court settlement is the best decision she thought of after heading for the advices of the Presiding Judge.
Meanwhile, Chavit claims that he is ready to release Che if she was only frank about it. However, close friends of the couple, Annabelle Rama and Nadia Montenegro work hand-in-hand for a possible reconciliation of the duo. Sounds as if love is getting sweeter the second time around. Everything happens in the name of LOVE.
